“Release Candidate Status Achieved by MX Linux 23 ‘Libretto’: The Powerful Debian 12-based OS Reimagined – BetaNews”

Exciting News: MX-23 RC1 is Here – Get Ready to Test Out the Latest Blend of Debian 12 and MX Repositories!

TGIF! Are you looking for some weekend fun? MX Linux has something special for you – the highly anticipated release of MX-23 RC1! This release brings together the best of both worlds, combining the stability of Debian 12 “Bookworm” with the impressive MX repositories.

But it’s not just a polished version of the beta – MX-23 RC1 also includes a range of bug fixes, new wallpapers, themes, translations, and updated apps. And for those who like options, MX-23 keeps both sysVinit and systemd for installed systems.

The developers are especially interested in hearing your feedback on the installer. They have worked tirelessly to fix any issues surrounding btrfs installations and have even added support for swapfiles in addition to swap partitions. Plus, they have made updates to the GUI, improved legacy grub-pc updates, and removed unnecessary “dump” entries.

No more guessing why your boot went wrong! MX-23 RC1 now features a “check media” option at the top of the live boot menu to ensure a smooth boot-up process. And the best part? MX-23 RC1 offers a variety of desktop options to choose from, including Xfce 4.18, Fluxbox 1.3.7, and KDE/Plasma 5.27, catering to a wider audience.

MX-23 RC1 also focuses on accessibility, providing the Orca screen reader and a screen magnifier tool. Updates have also been made to many MX apps, with bug fixes and enhancements, and special attention has been given to MX Snapshot, making your snapshot boot options more customizable.

In addition, MX-23 RC1 switches to using pipewire and wireplumber instead of pulseaudio, enables UFW firewall by default, and offers new configurations for the fluxbox release. The KDE/Plasma release has also received some tweaks to handle new configuration options available in plasma 5.27. And don’t worry, root actions are still included in dolphin, including the ability to open root dolphin instances via the root service menu actions.

The MX-23 RC1 developers are counting on your feedback to make this the best release yet. They are specifically looking for testing on the installer for traditional ext4 and btrfs installations, encrypted installs, and potential bugs in the MX-tools, such as in the mx-packageinstaller –> popular apps entries. Keep in mind that Timeshift may not recognize btrfs partitions for snapshots if they are on an encrypted partition.
